Strange grey blur on one side, since it was taken with my smashed in phone camera. I’m not a fan of Twitter, but this website works beautifully. Since I haven’t made a post in a while, I thought I would! I haven’t had much new design work to show recently, but I’m in the middle of a whole bunch of stuff at the moment, so hopefully there will be some new work up here soon! The website itself will also be getting a refresh soon (mostly so it actually works in all browsers, but also to make it a bit more user friendly). It might even have a new font! Exciting. By the way, I just thought I’d give a community service announcement: Back up your work! Two weeks ago was the first time I’d ever fully backed up any of my design or uni work (I know, I’m terrible), and guess what? Three days following my first ever full back up, my iMac, not even 2 years old, completely died. And I mean completely… dead power source, dead CPU/sound card/video card, dead hard drive… for no reason what so ever. Another community service announcement: Always buy the extended warranty when buying a Mac (or anything for that matter. But don’t trust that a Mac will never die, because when they do, they die hard). Sharon and Fred provide their best advice ever. So very, very disturbing, but contains an important message about how to choose a font! That time of year again! AGIdeas is a series of design events here in Melbourne, the main part of it being a 3 day design forum with a wide variety of speakers from all over the world. This is my fourth AGIdeas! I feel like a veteran of sorts, even though it’s been going on since like 1991… Today (Day 1 of the forum), speakers ranged from well known designer and part-time philosopher Stefan Sagmeister (woah, check out that website!) to author and experimental school principal John Marsden (I’m very much a Tomorrow Series fan). To anyone that’s attending, and happens to be on my blog over the next two days… see you there! Advertisement for Phillips titled Carousel Advertisement for Toshiba called Timesculpture
Ok. It’s no secret that Internet Explorer causes pain. It somehow only just came to my attention that IE totally screws up this website in every way possible. For this reason, and for general usability issues, I’m looking into a better navigation and layout system that will hopefully solve all my website design woes in one swoop. Wish me luck! Great idea by Rhett Dashwood. All found in Victoria on Google Maps. Sometimes I get kind of obsessive about collecting CD/LP/DVD/etc. releases from my favourite music artists. I thought I’d document the collections I’m most proud of with some photos. The collection shown blow belongs to Icelandic band Sigur Rós. You can see the other photos after the jump below (includes Jens Lekman, Arcade Fire, The Notwist and Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen).
I come across some really nice designer websites every now and then, and I always mean to post them here. So here’s one of them, belonging to The Stone Twins from the Netherlands. I always tell myself that I should keep this blog to strictly design.. but I couldn’t not post this video. Yesterday I finally got to watch the latest live DVD from my favourite Japanese artist, Shiina Ringo (who I’ve probably mentioned here way too many times). This was one of the stand outs on the DVD, Yokushitsu (The Bathroom). It’s great to see her go psycho on an apple, which is a step away from the sophisticated orchestra/jazz image she’s got going at the moment. To bring it back to design, here’s what the first press DVD package looks like:
